By now everyone who isn't living under a rock has heard of Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama--his explanation is very eloquent but even more his wise words about not confusing and equating Muslim Americans and Arab Americans with terrorists is a bucket of ice water that we need on the anti-Islamic rhetoric that keeps popping up.

Only one person knows for sure…and that’s Powell.
Powell claims that he’s not happy with the “rightward shift” of the Republican party.
Any merit in his accusation???

Do you know that AMEA is the only mixed race organization to sit on the US census burea so mixed race people do not get forced to choose one? Do you know AMEA is the only mixed race organization to sit on the media image coliation? ( It is our say in mixed race people and families portrayal in the media). Do you know AMEA in conjuction with the BFN ( Biracial Family Network) gave away 2 scholarships this year for Biracials and or transracial adoptees? And we hope to continue in the future. And AMEA with help, including LovingDay.org, put on the Loving Conference to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Loving decision.

Norris Hall--I'm going to reserve the bulk of my comments for a future post and link to an Op-Ed piece that Frank Rich recently wrote, but I suppose a few questions of my own come to mind:
*What do you mean by "Is it about race?" are you implying that Powell's endorsement of Obama is based on the fact that they may share a racial identity? In which case it does beg the question of why we don't ask this question of every white politician endorsed by another white politician.
*What do you mean by "accusation"? Wasn't he simply asserting his opinion? Why do you see it as an "accusation"?
*Bachman does seem to confirm the worst in a neo-McCarthyism--so I would agree that it does also confirm Powell's assertions that the Republican party has taken on a "rightward shift."
