In the film, it is white people enslaving black people.MiguelJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00390659661208051848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1658138279766595241.post-83013137790647439252012-11-11T17:40:42.529-05:002012-11-11T17:40:42.529-05:00I felt this was an ambitious film, and I have not ...I felt this was an ambitious film, and I have not read the novel, though I will put it on my list. I liked the movie but in some ways, and especially after reading your posts, I admit I was a little distracted by the characters being made-up as different ethnicities. Is it any different than putting on black face? I don't know, but it was weird. It's like the masquerade was more important than the characters or what was happening. For me, after a while, I tried not to think about who was behind the make-up. I was quite offended by the part of the movie where all the Asian women were objectified automatons and were supposed to look exactly the same (I knew they weren't only because I can look at people of other ethnicities and races and see individuals), but tried to let that go as well, in attempting to just enjoy the story.

Anyway, I'm not sure I think the movies was promoting that being mixed race will be the saving of our world. My thoughts at the end of the film were that race and ethnicity have little to do with survival and that in the future keeping racially and ethnically defined parameters won't make sense or have currency.

Dianne
http://aboutracewriter.blogspot.com

Diannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00367333776511320196noreply@blogger.com
